Jessica Setnick- IFEDD Founder
I first met Jessica Setnick at Virginia Tech when she came to speak to our campus as a part of eating disorder awareness week on campus. She was inspirational! Jessica has devoted her career as a dietitian to the field of eating disorders. She works as a Registered Dietitians to treat eating disorders and opened her own practice Understanding Nutrition in Dallas, Texas. Her mission is empower health professionals to confidently and competently treat eating disorders. As founder of Eating Disorder Boot Camp, she does just that, and her Eating Disorders Clinical Pocket Guide is an essential reference for all eating disorder treatment providers. Jessica created the International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians in order to bring eating disorder dietitians together and provide networking opportunities and resources in order to improve the treatment and recovery outcomes of individuals with eating disorders. IFEDD members know they always have a group of professionals to turn to for advice or to share accomplishments with!
Meet the IFEDD Student Liaison
I remember walking up to every dietetic student I would meet at Virginia Tech to ask what they wanted to do as a Registered Dietitian, and no one answered "treat eating disorders." An English major at the time, I knew that my own recovery from anorexia nervosa would have never been possible had it not been for the the Registered Dietitian who taught me first how to love and understand food, and then taught me how to let go of the rigid rules of dieting and live with a total diet approach. It was after a semester of never meeting a future eating disorder dietitian that I decided to change my major so there could be one more registered dietitian in the future that would make a difference in individuals' recovery from eating disorders. As IFEDD Student Liaison, I have the opportunity to change one into many. I work to contact the registered dietitians of the future in order to promote IFEDD student membership, and the amazing impact an eating disorder dietitian can have on a person's life.
